To enable our scheme members to connect with volunteers for friendship and company while restrictions for visiting because of the pandemic were in place.
Telephone befriending has now become a core part of our befriending offer. Volunteers are matched in the same way as they would be for face to face visiting (hobbies, interests, mutual likes). Calls often take place weekly for between 30-45 minutes.
Volunteers are provided with resources about how to create positive moments of connection over the phone. Additional training and support are also offered if conversations become difficult.
"Throughout the pandemic telephone befriending proved to bring “a ray of sunshine into my life” - Scheme Member feedback.
Volunteers also felt that telephone befriending was “enriching” - Volunteer feedback.
Your donations and support helps to change lives and overcome loneliness.
Could you support us financially? In doing so you will enable us to positively connect with older people who feel ‘invisible’, ‘forgotten’, and ‘alone’.
Regular monthly or one off donations make a significant difference to our Charity.
We need the generous support of our community, both big and small to improve the lives of society's most lonely, isolated and vulnerable older people.
